In Dudley a coastal suburb of Newcastle NSW, a group of homeschooling families have come together to create a unique and supportive community. The Tribe Homeschool Co-op meets weekly, providing a space for children to learn, explore, and connect with others.
A Versatile Space
The co-op is held in a spacious hall with a stage, commercial kitchen, and adjacent playground, community garden, and oval. The nearby national park and swamps offer endless opportunities for outdoor exploration.
A Structured yet Flexible Approach
Each week begins with Circle Time, meditation, breathing and gratitude;  that sets the tone for the day and allows the children the chance to express themselves in the group. This is followed by a range of workshops and activities, including:
- Nature-based learning
- Art and craft sessions (e.g., candle making, eco-dying)
- Music and movement activities (e.g., rhythm and music, shamanic drum meditation)
- Celebrations and workshops focused on seasonal themes and indigenous wisdom
- Â Free play for the children to strengthen their relationships.
A Focus on Community
The co-op is built on the principles of collaboration, mutual support, and respect. By working together, families can share knowledge, resources, and expertise, creating a richer learning environment for all.
